Bastrop Disaster Relief “Update for the bridge church family. Below is an update from the district concerning the Bastrop relief efforts. A Letter from NTD Disaster Relief Coordinator Dear NTD Pastors, I want to thank you for your prayers and support to this point for the many people who have lost their homes in the recent fires. There are many of you that have called and asked what you can do to help. There are some real needs we have right now and there are some things we don’t need. In order to update you as to the situation, there are currently approx. 1600 homes that have been lost. This disaster is already being called the largest disaster for any single county in the history of Texas. We believe our immediate job here is to show the Love of Christ by helping these families sift through what remains after their homes have burned. To do this we need to provide them the volunteer help and the tools they need to do this. So what do we need your help with? In order of priority I would say BOOTS ON THE GROUND! We need volunteers as well as point men who could take volunteer teams to help these people. Then if you’ll keep in mind that we are working with no shade and sifting through tons of ashes you will understand that we need · 10x10 straight leg folding canopies (easily pulled up or down) · Visine · work gloves · spray sunblock · flat scoop shovels · metal rakes · and a product called “yard guard” which comes in 10’ or 25’ long rolls and is 2’ wide and ¼ inch mesh (used to sift with). · We also need Bibles to give to the families we’re helping. What we don’t need is clothing, toys, furniture or anything of this nature at this time, as we don’t have enough people to sort them and if we did, the people have no place to take them to, as their homes are gone. We will have need for food to feed our volunteers but ask that any food donations be run through my daughter Staci as she will be coordinating this effort. Also if you have a group of volunteers who can come and help us please contact her, as she will be coordinating this area as well. Finally, we need MONEY. Finances may be given to the North Texas District Disaster Relief fund (account #78.2181).
